To us, Tromsø in Norway stands out as one of the best small cities we know, mainly because of its stunning location as Tromsø is nestled among breathtaking fjords.
Tromsø's Arctic location offers Polar Nights, Northern Lights, and Midnight Sun. But these natural wonders are also part of Finnish Lapland, where we live, so they are not the primary reasons why we visit Tromsø region a few times each year.
Living in the Lappish forest, we occasionally need to visit a city for various reasons – be it repairs, shopping for items not found in Lapland, or simply to dine in good restaurants with different food to that that Lapland offers. Tromsø is our preferred destination as it has everything a city can offer, with the huge added benefit of its stunning location.
Within a 15-minute drive from the city centre in any direction, you are surrounded by breathtaking wilderness. Moreover, we always travel with our little dog Gooseberry, and Tromsø is conveniently located just a little over five hours drive from our home.
